Putnam Youth Basketball League

Classic Basketball

"Classic" is the Putnam Youth traveling league with mandatory tryouts held in October and season running November 1 to early March.

We attempt to field both girls and boys teams for each of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade divisions; teams are formed of players residing within the Rex Putnam HS attendance area and compete against other teams from the Portland-metro area including Milwaukie, Clackamas, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Lakeridge, Wilsonville, Canby, Tigard, Tualatin, Molalla, Gladstone, and others.  Travel is generally limited to a 20 mile radius, but a few games and tournaments may be played out of the metro area.

Players selected to Classic teams can expect to practice or play games 3-4 and occasionally 5 days per week.  Teams will play 16 league games and in 3-5 weekend tournaments, normally 30+ games for the season.  Coaches are appointed by the PYBL Board and teams are selected by a draft process conducted with joint input from PYBL Classic and RPHS program evaluators, appointed coaches, and the PYBL Board.
